Well..........T came home at another decent hour.....an hour before city curfew. Whenever he arrives home he helps himself to the frig. (we used to wait on our baby) but now he's self- sufficient. So last night he decides to grill some garlic bread on our outside grill and even though we (hubby and I) just came from a party, it smelled good. I asked him for a piece - just to see what his reaction would be- and he said sure! He even offered me another one. I know it sounds so insignificant, but since he's been so surly around here.....it was a big step. I really think the arrest and being taken in by the police had a big affect on him because he's never been physically arrested before. So maybe we are in an upswing! He really doesn't seem like he's using anymore either. His body language is much more relaxed than it was. Life seems better. Naturally, I hope it continues. Last night hubby and I went to a steak cook-out around the block from us. The gathering had, at least, 150 people. It was a thank you/fundraiser for all the people who worked on the fund-raising for the new turf at the high school. My hubby was on that committee. Honestly, I really didn't want to go. The principal, who turned down almost every thing I worked on to try and get mental health education at the school was the one who was hostessing it (not located at his house, however). Anyway.....I thought I was going to feel very uncomfortable but I ended up having an excellent time! The principal went out of his way to say hi to me. That's about the extent of our conversations (I find him difficult to talk to) but I felt better. It did feel great to have the health teacher approach me and tell me how impressed he was with the suicide prevention program that presented in his classroom. Even though I wasn't directly responsible for getting this program at the school, I know that they did it because of the pressure I gave them to do something. This is the suicide prevention group I got the school to do fund-raising for. So that was good to hear about the program. I also talked to him about T. Since he's the soccer coach, he knew that T was having a difficult time (T dropped soccer. The health teacher's dad also came to his classroom to talk about AA because he is a recovering alcoholic. He understands all about that subject. Oh............because I've been so occuppied with T, I fail to mention the other two boys. J, second born - freshman in college -- is making us a bit nervous. He hasn't been returning any of our phone calls. That is NOT a good sign. Usually when he distances himself....something is going on. I hope he's taking care of himself and taking his meds. I sent him an e-mail offering him to forward the info. to his doctor regarding renewing his meds....and he said he did....but .... I have concerns that he might not follow through and actually pick them up at the school health clinic. He isn't very responsible but I am hoping he will be for this important issue. And then there is S. I called him on Friday evening to see how he was doing (forgetting about the homecoming parade at his college). He is the RA in the new dorm he's living in and was responsible for getting his group to decorate a golf cart for the parade. So when I called him he was driving the cart - in the middle of the parade! He is so funny! So full of life. He answers his cell during the parade and takes the time to chat with me! He was having such a ball. Then he laughed and said he was having a difficult time seeing through the chicken wire! I thought that that was hysterical and told him that we shouldn't be talking so that he could concentrate on the road! He laughed. Life is great. He's always been that way.....how he was born - saw that in him as a baby. T was a very happy baby, too. Soon he will be happy again. We will get through this........

Good party - good for you! From this vantage point, it would seem that your efforts and involvement (suicide prevention) have not gone unnoticed - either by the principal, the teacher and it reached an important target audience -- STUDENTS. It was a student, not an adult that raised the warning flag about our son. It\'s hard because they often view this as \"snitching\".....or don\'t know when the issue is bigger than the resources they have access to. Also, the principal could have easily avoided you but didn\'t. I suspect that he values your participation with the school in many ways....and so you win some and lose some.....clearly, it\'s not personal with him!
It was good to hear that there have been some lighter and pleasant moments at home! I hope there are many more. Take Care!
