Went to the police station to pick up our son's shoes (and to drop off Suicide Prevention material --poster-- why not have the police dept. included --right?). When I was waiting the detective came out to talk to me. Apparently, when I tried to find the IPOD player our son had (which did my son didn't own) to give to the detective (Kevin) because he was also looking for an IPOD from another break-in -- it was gone from the place T-Man had it sitting. The IPOD was there minutes before --- Anyway....the reason Kevin wanted to talk was he said that the police dept. shares everything with the school. They have a strong relationship...which is good. So the school knows about the break-ins and what the missing items are. One of them is an IPOD from the other house that they told the school to keep a look out for. And guess who brought it to school? Needless to say, it was taken away from T-Man but nothing was said to him. Right now the police are checking the serial # on it to find out who it belongs to. Kevin said it would take 24 hours to find out. Which means they will find out today -- possibily during school hours. I just hope and pray that T-Man isn't confronted there. That would not be good. Kevin gets in at one o'clock and I will call him immediately to make sure that doesn't happen. I doubt he will do that, however, - he's been good about maintaining a low profile and handling these situations in a calm manner. All this is good. All the negative effects of T-Man's behaviors now are finally affecting him - BIG TIME! He told me yesterday that he was smoking his last cigarette because he's quitting. Today he smelled strongly of butt smoke when he got in the car as I drove him to school and I asked him about what he said about quitting. He told me that he decided he can't quit everything at once -- it would be too hard. He seems to be really trying and struggling to now do the right thing. A real break through! In fact, this morning (as always) he blares music from the bathroom as he showers and the music has been so disgusting - devil music....ugly, gross, rap swearing - etc. This morning, however, he played "This Little Light Of Mine." On the way to school, he played "Bad Boys" - Whats cha go to do when they come for you?' And -- my husband noticed he had his Young Life Christian book opened up by his bed!!! He's trying. It may be too soon to tell but maybe he isn't addicted. Maybe he was just abusing it and can stop on his own. I guess it might be safe to ask him if he would be willing to go for an assessment now.... We will see.......

Wow, that\'s incredible! This Little Light of Mine???? That\'s great!!! You should play him \"You are my Sunshine\". :-) I\'m so happy for you!
You could offer to buy him the patch....as a show of support so that he doesn\'t have nicotine withdrawal....I suspect that he has both physical and psychological cravings -- very real -- given the behavior you describe. I guess the underlying question, was what was his motivation to use in the first place? Addressing that (impulsive, sensation seeking, boundary pushing, low self esteem, self medicate a physical or emotional matter) will be key to making any changes in behavior/using permanent. The truth is, he may not even know and it may take some therapy to get at the issue....Maybe now is the time to re-suggest that he go to therapy with you?! I am hoping that he reaches out and/or is open to the supports that are open to him! You are doing a fabulous job as a parent!!!
Fingers crossed...........
