My son is one smart cookie.   I just wish he'd use his brain to do positive and meaningful things ....as opposed to what he's been using it lately for. All along this son of mine had it in his head that he would be able to get off on the drug possession charge.  He did his homework.....calling friend's whose parents are lawyers ....as well as a mentor he got to know who is a juvenile lawyer.  Long story, but he baffled the volunteer magistrate and the detective.  I think he might have been able to get off.  In the meantime,  I've been putting pressure on them to order a drug test and assessment for my son that night.  If my son did not admit the one charge, we would have had to go downtown and "fight" it there.  That would have meant a delay and no testing for awhile.  Eventually, my son (don't know how we did it) agreed to the charges.  I was so relieved.  So yesterday I took him for a test.  Because of my concern, the detective ordered a hair sample test.  That surprised my son.  He thought he was only going to give a urine sample.  He told me that he would have been clean on that test because it only picks up drugs for about a month.  The hair sample goes back about 3 months.  He says he hasn't engaged in drugs since getting caught.  I could offer to take him for a urine sample also.  I do know, however, that he's been drinking since he knew he'd get tested.  Obviously.....whether it's drugs or drinking.....he has some kind of problem.Good news........he's doing awesome in soccer!  I am so glad that he has that to focus on and keeps him away from all the negative stuff he's been involved in. We'll get through this.  I have all the ducks lined up.....with all the help I've managed to get.  Right now I'm feeling more confident.

I think I said enough, yesterday. I just want to say that I am glad things are progressing as you see fit. He is in good hands with his parents.

Oh yeah, they all share the stories about how to beat the system (substances, speeding, etc.)! On the bright side he\'s resourceful. It works to your disadvantage in terms of being manipulated. (i.e. switch from drugs to alcohol). Good to know that you have resources available, and he is being held accountable. Great news that soccer is going well for him. Hope he can develop some other \"positive\" circles to travel in....Take Care.
