I was able to talk on my son's cell phone last night. I just can't cut off service at this point. Before he left I told him if he didn't do what he was asked to do....he had a choice.....whether we turn his phone off or not. He chose not to do what was asked of him ...but I can't do it since I need to hear his voice. He informed me last night that he isn't planning coming home for awhile because his friends told him that the police are looking for him. He said he's afraid they will arrest him. We tried to tell him that if comes home on his own, that they would only come to the house and just talk to him. He doesn't buy anything we say......his wonderful "friends" have all the answers. He also talked to my husband last night and said that we shouldn't worry......he's fine.....and that we should just think of him as "being on vacation." We should take such a vacation.......Good news......I think. I found another counselor. My husband and I didn't like the last one at all. I think that counselor just cranks new people through on a regular basis. I can't imagine people would stick with him. He was terrible. No wonder I was told that he has immediate openings....... Now I am confused because I met a drug counselor who I really, really like. Problem is...........I don't know if it's really the drugs that is the problem. I don't know what her title is but she really seems to know her stuff....including going through with it with her own son years ago. Plus her office is so far away. The one who called me yesterday, I was told, treats kids who've dealt with drugs and is also a "regular" counselor. I may still see her today anyway (especially since my son isn't home and I need to talk to someone) since she said she has a cancellation. I want all options open. Perhaps I will like her too. Not crazy about her husband, however. He is a teacher at my son's school..... My oldest son had him as a teacher and liked him, but I've heard that if your child is struggling....he has no patience. I also know that they are two different people but she did marry him...... I am over thinking this thing way too much. Gotta get to work.......fortunately....it's only for a few hours......wouldn't be able to concentrate.

Sorry, but I had to laugh when I read the line, \"I am over thinking this thing way too much,\" because, by the time I got to that point, my mouth was open with confusion. I\'d rather do fuzzy math. ;o) Choosing a counselor is really difficult. I wish I felt better about my mom\'s paychiatrist. We changed once. Gave the guy his 6 months, and it was a disaster! They\'re a strange lot of people, anyway. I mean, who\'d want a job where you have to listen to horrible stories all day long, and then can only guess what to..
And, well to be honest, my friend, I\'d rather worry about my mom than my kids. With them, so far, so good.
As for the \"over thinking,\" I suggest you find some way to distract yourself for a while. I think this allows your subconscious to work. It\'s amazing what it can do.. go swimming, look at the sun, dream about your own childhood, anything, even take a nap if you can.. Then, I think when you come back to it you will be able to think a lot more clearly.
Take care..
My son\'s counselor was my statistics professor -- it was fine. People do keep their professional lives separate.
Drug counselor - just LPC (experience and license) or at least a MA level? Does the person have the breadth of experience if the issue is more than addiction? Hope you like the \"available\" counselor! At least you get a fresh opportunity to tell your story and get some feedback.
As a parent, I am constantly surprised that when kids stay over at our house - their parents don\'t call me -- to see if I\'m home, if it\'s OK or how to reach them .... in case there is an accident + with boys that happens :-) We have even had girls show up for the weekend -- it\'s just stunning to me! Of course, I ask that they call a parent and give our home info and check in. So, this is probably what is happening with your son, just a couple of days somewhere and no one thinks much of calling since he has a cell phone .... Glad to hear that he is safe. Take Care.
