A friend of mine suggested that I call the juvenile detective (actually he's rather mature...sorry..bad joke) and insist that my son skip the diversion program and go directly to drug court downtown. She said it made a big impact on her son when he was addicted. She said there were other boys who did the local diversion "program"....community service, who are still having problems. I know my son isn't as bad off as her son was, but if it could help...why not? I need to talk to my husband about it, but he might not go for it. The two of us actually have a family counselor we are going to see next week and I think that would be a great time to bring it up. I tried to tell him about it before, but he didn't want to hear what my friend had to say about how she dealt with it. Sweeping this under the carpet is not the way to go.....that is how my husband handle things. His mom is a recovering alcoholic (stopped drinking years ago...before I met my husband)....so maybe this how he's learned to deal with situations like this.....All I can say is I can't wait to talk to the counselor. Although I know many of the things he's going to say to help us with my son....it will be extremely helpful when my husband hears it from an expert and NOT me.......

Best to you during this difficult time..
I think you want him to see all that can happen while he is still NOT of age and while he is with you (and your husband) and has your support. I think you are very wise!
