Two down and one to go. Our middle guy graduated last night and the ceremony was wonderful. It was a "bit" muggy and hot in the gym, where the ceremony took place, but due to the iffy weather (rained on and off all day) there was nothing we could do about that. There were two students who spoke at the graduation and I must say they did a much better job than the school superintendent's speech. He needs work in the public speaking arena, that's for sure. We weren't quite sure where he was going with his talk.......disconnected and pointless. I wonder if anyone else thought the same thing. Anyway, the student who spoke first, caught us off guard and certainly woke our son up from all the blah, blah, blah.....speeches. A few minutes into her speech, she says our son's name. Uh oh.....what was she leading up to? After mentioning his name she told the audience how my son knows all the capitals and flags of the world. **note: It's not a school requirement --- just loves trivia.....facts. She went on to mention all the talents the students have to offer our world and their love of learning. Whew! We didn't know what she was going to say when she started with his name. My son loves to draw attention to himself ---generally in sublte ways (but not always)--- but this time......it wasn't his doing and very unexpected. After the ceremony and before the group pictures with his friends.....he came up to my husband and I and gave us both a huge hug! It was so totally unexpected ....coming from him. It was the best thing he could have done. I am tearing up just thinking about it.....considering how miserable, depressed, and angry he's been for most of his teen years. This is the child I once remembered. I think I'm going to write a thank you to his psychiatrist. I love his doctor. To me .....he is our savior.
