My oldest son, at college, called us yesterday to tell us that he earned the RA position for next year. He had to take a semester class for it, was interviewed, and had to write an essay to win this position. He is so happy because, not only will there be no room and board costs, they are also going to pay him, plus he'll have his own room with air conditioning. What a responsibility but we told him if anyone gives him any grief, he should ask the basketball and football players in his dorm to help him with back up.
Had the Relay For Life (cancer benefit) event at our kids high school last night. This is the fund raising event we contributed to when we had the dance at our house. My middle son's newest band performed for the event last night. He's the lead singer. He had a lot of fun. I really loved his old band, however....very "user-friendly". All original songs and very entertaining and creative. I only heard one song from the newer band (they actually don't perform in this anymore either -except last night) and I thought it was okay. Our doctor said he heard their band on the Internet (NPR) and said he really liked it. I guess I'm not "with-it".
Think our youngest is dabbling again in the illegal substance. Actually I know he is. But it seems to be "only" dabbling. His behavior isn't as bad as it had been when we discovered it last time, but --obviously--I have concerns. Just have to keep telling him that we aware that he's doing them and reminding him that we love him. Just wish he didn't have his friend living so close to us. Although I understand that our son picked him as a friend, this boy seems to have always been a bad influence on our son. This boy*-- is a year older and is always (and has always) gotten into trouble without my son around. So when my son is with him....that's when my son gets into trouble....like this drug thing. Breaks my heart. I need to find SOMETHING constructive to do this summer. My husband and I have one idea.....pay him to spread dirt and mulch around our property. He earns money by cutting our lawn so, hopefully, he will agree to do this. Perhaps we will get his friend to help and get paid too. These boys need some structure. Idle hands......

Son\'s one, two, and three.. What a variety..
I guess your middle son has his music on something like UTube. It is really incredible what they do now!
As for the 3rd; I too hope this dabbling does not grow..
I know I cannot dabble with cigarettes... Well, I think
you can just keep doing what you are doing..
BTW, I\'ve been looking for follow up with the mental health program and that principal and the school board, etc.. Remember, you are the one who faught city hall and WON! Since you can do that, you can do anything, I believe!!!
And good luck to first born..
Hey! I was an RA in college for two years -- it was a fabulous experience.
Congrats to #2. What a great experience for him, and how great for him to be involved in such a worthy cause.
On #3 -- hopefully it remains just dabbling. I think keeping him busy might help... hard to do, but can you talk to your son about the influence of this \"friend?\"
