Just talked to one of my son's former teachers. The teacher gave me an ear full regarding my son's situation last year with his depression. The teacher told me that some of the staff members at the school had a very hard time believing my son had depression, even after he was released from the hospital. I already knew that. I could tell by the way the teachers acted. I should have complained then, but I kept my mouth shut. This conversation alone is what is going to help me move forward with this education issue. I am getting resistance from the administration. The principal put on a great show telling me how concerned and passionate he is about getting mental health education in the schools and then after that conversation....that was it. No responses to e-mails or phone calls. I don't understand. Very frustrating. It may take awhile but I am going to keep on trying. Fortunately, I saved an e-mail I rec'd from a teacher I will use if I have to. I hope I don't. I am hoping that when I take the next step (curriculum director) I will be successful. I doubt it. The teacher told me I probably won't get anywhere with him. We will see.
