Mad

I'm mad!  Madder than H,,L!  I worked for a company for 18 years and they wasted my talent.  I guess this has been brewing ever since I talked to Sara when I told her I'd been let go.  She said I'd wasted my life.  And you know?  She's right!  She shocked me when she told me that Vickie and her had agreed that I was the smartest of the 3 siblings.  The smartest?  How can that be?  They both have college educations.  I graduated from technical school, actually 2.  They had great careers in teaching.  I've bounced around from one career to another.  Early in my life, I had a problem dealing with pressure.  That's why I was discharged from the air force.  Couldn't stay off scholastic probation at the colleges I attended.  It was so bad, my parents had a battery of tests run to see if I was just dumb.  I'd just flunked out after 2 bad years in college.  It was quite a surprise when the tests revealed, at age 19, I had the knowledge of a student in the first year of medical school!  But, I couldn't do anything with it!  I couldn't take the pressure!  I'd go blank at tests.  One of the provisions of my discharge was that I sought help to deal with the pressure.  I did. And,now thrive on pressure.  I have talents! I can speak in public to as many people as you want to put in front of me.  And, I can write.  Yall have seen it here.  I can gather news and report it on a radio station.  I can design radio news programs.  I proved that when I designed and aired an hour and a half morning news program,,,,the first in our town.  All the time in the passed 18 years, I tried to get out of my job in order to better use my talents.  I had better news knowlege than anyone in the news room, but they wouldn't let me in.  I could write commercials, but they wouldn't let me in.  So, I stayed in my little "hole", using part of my talents of observation to make sure the commercials were right.  It was such a very small part of what I could do!  And, I can manage people and a business.  I proved that on my last food service job when they made me a troubleshooter to go to an operation to clean it up and get the costs in line.   But, now it's too late.  There's not enough time left in my life to start a new career.  I might have 2 or 3 good years left in me, but that's not enough!  Sara was right!  I've wasted my life!

I don\'t believe it. Perhaps life is not just what you wanted but it was not wasted. You give me happiness when I read your well written journals and share you thoughts. Keep looking there is a place for your talent even if it for only a few years. hugs, Sue

I don\'t think you wasted your life. Everything we do, every job (no matter how insignificant) is a learning experience and we grow from these. Have you considered doing freelance writing??? That is what I would love to do........don\'t give up. Don\'t take what Sara said to heart either!!!!! You are your own person and you know what you can do.
Have a great day,
Gabby
