I heard a commercial on the radio about a weight loss program tonight. It was a plan I'd used about 30 years ago. I'd just moved to Little Rock for a promotion in my job. Outside of being fat, I was in good shape. Never missed a day of work. In fact, that was one of the reasons I'd gotten the promotion. I'd felt some chest pains while I was packing for the move, but didn't think anything about it. But the first day after getting to Little Rock the pains came back so bad I called an ambulance. I was admitted to the hospital and an angiogram showed partial blockages in 2 arteries in my heart. They did an angioplasty and I fianlly got to work on my new job a week later. The doctor said I needed to lose weight and put me on Medifast. At the time, Medifast was an all liquid diet plan. You drank the shakes 4 times a day. You could have beef or chicken boullion. The only solid food you could have was a dill pickle a day. It must have had something in it that you needed. You really looked forward to the pickle. But the plan was dangerous. Any solid food could hurt you. Part of the program was a period of adjustment back to solid food at the end of the plan. I know. There was this hanmburger place that made the best hamburgers I've ever tasted and I got one with fries. I really got sick! So, I went back on the diet. It worked. I lost 60 pounds in 3 months. But I lost my job with the company and the insurance that payed for the plan. I gained back all the weight, plus some. I looked up the plan on the internet tonight and it's changed. No more all liquid diet. They're just like all the others,,,selling you their food for the plan. I'm glad no-one else has to go through a liquid diet. It's not worth it.

I did the Optifast liquid diet back in the early 90s and lost 55 pounds, along with my hair. Since then, I\'ve gained more weight than I care to confess, and I have stomach problems. All because of the quick fix liquid diet. It was 450 calories a day and we couldn\'t even eat pickles. No fun. No good.
Seem like what I had was Metrecal ( may not be just the right name) Also drank 4 per day and lost weight until I started to gag on the first sip. I still can remember the taste of the vanilla and chocolate. That was early \'60\'s. Then there was Atkins in the \'70\'s, lost lots, learn to love fats, stopped at McD\'s to eat the hamburger and cheese tossed the bun. Also went to to \"fat dr.\" and got a speed up pill, and shots in the butt losing 7lbs per week until the pills stopped working. Now my 57 year old sister is on a similar \"fat Dr. Clinic\" and has lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks, same kind of pills and shots. Life doesn\'t change much does it.
Holy schmokes! I thought about going on a liquid diet, but after reading this, I will never entertain such thoughts again. Thanks for the enlightenment!
