A guy from the newsroom commented about me making coffee at 11 o'clock at night and I told him I needed something to keep me awake till 7 in the morning. And he said it was better than drugs. It made me think about my life with drugs. In my later years, I've become leary of drugs. My first memory of drugs is the stuff my mom put in my ear when I was 3 or 4 years old because I had an infection. Then my pediatrcian gave me shots, injections, because I had high blood pressure when I was only 7 or 8 years old. That was until he figured out that my blood pressure went up because I was afraid of getting a shot. Then there were the diet pills when I was a little older. My dad loved them because I could put up 5 or 6 cases of stock in his grocery store in about 10 or 12 minutes. Of course, at home. I couldn't sit still. In college, there were more drugs. If you got a cough, the college nurse would give you a small bottle of codein based cough syrup. We'd save the bottles and drink 2 or 3 at one time. Then the over the counter drugs. I took Compose to settle my nerves before a big date with a good looking girl. Took so much, I fell asleep during the movie. NoDoz was next to study for finals. Up 3 nights. Didn't make it to the finals. Fell asleep. I take an anti-spasmodic for muscle cramps. About 10 years ago I took niacin for cholesteral. The flushes were so bad I felt I was on fire! It's no wonder that when I had my bypass surgery, I refused painkillers because I was afraid I'd get addicted to them. I was in constant pain till the nurse told me they were weren't addicting. I'm still leary of drugs, but I take a bunch now. I have 2 pills for blood pressure, one of which also has a dyuretic, an anti spasmodic, a cholesteral pill, and a diabetes pill. Plus, I take a vitamin pill, a cinnamon pill, potassium pill, fiber pill, and aspirin. That seems like a lot of pills to take everyday. I know many of you take far more than that, but I wonder if we really need all these pills.

I really respect my Dr. who is a very smart young retire Army man willing to practice in a small village. But he definitely suggests a pill for many of my problems. I have dropped a few but darn if in a few months or years I seem to really need them again. Today I got another pill for six days because of a painful rash over my whole face and under chin. It\'s predisone. I am desperate to get rid of the itching. Guess we belong to the pill club.
