Well, my last day is coming to an end. The days off have been productive. All my regular tasks were completed and few extra ones also. I saw my first 2 cardinals come my feeders outside my window. They are so beautiful! And their chirp is music to my ears. More birds are coming to the feeders now, especially the little house finches. They're cute little things, but they sure make a mess. I'll have a bumper crop of weeds underneath the feeders come spring. I'm thinking about going to sunflower seeds only in the feeders next time. I'd put out some unshelled mixed nuts by my feeders on Christmas day as my special gift to the birds and squirrels, but they weren't touched. They were in a big pan on top of an overturned wash tub. The squirrels, probably, didn't even know they were there. So, I dumped them at the bottom of the tree in my back yard. As I was looking out the window, a squirrel came down the tree to see what they were. He had a big choice to make. There were almonds, filberts, wallnuts, and Brazil nuts in the pile. He chose a wallnut almost as big as his head. He didn't seem to be quite sure what to do with it. He rolled it around in his paws. Tried to take a bite. And decided to take it up into the tree. I watched as he got out on a limb and, again, rolled it around in his paws and tried to take a bite. Again, nothing. So he put it in his mouth and made a mad dash out to the end of the limb and onto a tree is the next yard. I guess he wanted to get to a more secure place to try to figure out how he'd get inside the shell. Scenes like these make my days. No matter how low I am, seeing the birds and squirrels gives me a pick up. There's nothing like watching God's creatures.

Amen to that, it\'s the highlight of my day to watch the birds, deer, turkey and sometimes other wild life surprises. And every season bring a different variety and a few that just stick around.
I love watching the birds and feeding them too. I
don\'t have any squirrels here at my house. My son
says there are squirrels here at the big Sequoia
Park here. I have a big bag of mixed nuts with their
shells on them I could take to the Park and walk and
feed the squirrels then. There is also alot of birds
of all kinds there and wild ducks in a big pond.
We are having a week of sunshine and I need to go
and walk some fun places while the weather is good.
foxydad, this is what brings joy to my days as well. I only put sunflower seed out. Although the wood peckers were empty-ing it in 2 days. I have 3 other feeders that are harder for the wood pecker to get to, only can get one at a time. So I filled that feeder with safflower and millet which only the finch like and may take to the end of the season to empty. Love it, lol Sue (thought I\'d add another comment)
