Day 25
Not to kid myself, but this is getting easier as the days pass. I just returned from a weekend at the Maryland shore with my wife and two friends. Everyone had drinks at the shore and I discovered how tasty a very spicey virgin Mary can be. I actually did enjoy them.
My memory and my mental alertness continues to improve.
I have taught myself to speed read novels and now really enjoy a good book.
I have not had an urge to drink in quite some time.
Now I am looking for some new goals to pursue.
I do completely understand that at any moment I could slip and fall back into drinking again and that I can never have just one drink. Thanks to reading posts on this web site I have gotten a much better understanding of alcoholism. The key was the fact that what makes me different is that one drink makes me want to have another, and another, another until I am pretty much smashed. I can function the next day but at nowhere near my potential.
To reach my true potential in the remaining years of my life, I cannot ever let another drop of alcohol pass my lips again. That is a promise I plan on keeping.
