Dad taught me lots. Lots of basic stuff from making things like fences in the yard and walls in a house; he taught me a bit about wiring and even plumbing; he taught me how to handle a rifle safely; he taught me how to drive; he taught me how to maintain and repair a car ... a semi-trailer truck; together we learned how to make a stone wall; I watched him learn how to walk on an artificial leg and coping with the adversity of the life changing medical events leading to the loss of that leg.
Almost sounds like Dad isn't with us any longer. But he is. He got back home from the hospital yesterday. Mom says he is doing okay though I know he isn't happy about the insulin they put him on. His sugar was under control before he went into hospital two weeks ago. He does have some heart medication that they didn't know he needed.
Still Dad is an example to me. Mostly on just what a person can accomplish if they are willing to learn and to try. Dad didn't have a lot of the opportunities that I had. If I have children - I still _hope_ to - I hope that they will have opportunities that I haven't had. I think that is the way things are supposed to go.
Maybe I'll have to repeat something like this in June! ;-)

i\'m glad your dad is home, you can tell he was a good father to you and you love him very much
What a beautiful tribute of sorts for you Dad.
I like to hear kids say good things about their parents and what they have gotten from them. Your Dad sounds like a wonderful Dad and you a wonderful son carrying on his example! Also sometimes after a medical setback we diabetics have to adjust our unsulin because the setback knocks our bodies out of whack. After awhile he may get back under control again. I am sure you will make a wonderful Dad too ! Have a great day ..!!!!
Darrell,
Thank The Lord, your Dad is at home now. [smniles] and iit is so precious how you can take time and reflect on the love and significance of having your dad to instill all those important lessons of learning and life while growing.
AND so true on being an example to children.
Have a super day, today
im glad that you and your dad had a close relationship. Wish my dad had taught me half of what yours did...but im a girl so he thinks i dont need to know these things! Glad your dad is back home, must be a relief for you, maybe you can catch up on those z\'s!::::::::::hugs:::
I haven\'t been sleeping a lot, and maybe a couple hours at a time. But I have spent hours listening to audio-books with my eyes shut until I start dozing off... then I turn off my mp3 player put it aside and find myself awake. LOL Often I can fall asleep for an hour or two after... but not more than 5 or 6 hours a day. Though I have to lay down lots. Still too wobbly to go out.
