The rain washed out a gully where my driveway meets the road. Township is still getting materials together for Spring maintenance. Life runs reeeeeeeally slooooow around here. My son, when he still lived here, got five ton of shale for his side of the driveway. Spread it out nice and level where he parked his car, didn't give me a stone on mine.
Well he got his own place now,  with his new wife bless her heart, and left all that wonderful gravel behind. I waited a year. I am surprised he didn't come with a dump truck, shovel it on and take it with him. Anyway it's mine now, so went in and got a shovel.
My husband had many different sizes of shovels, and never used a one. He'd either pay someone to do the grunt work or just forget about it. I picked a shovel my size, with a nice short handle, and began shoveling shale into the gully. I sang that old Sam Cooke song:That's the sound of the men, workin on the chain...ga-A-ang.                                   That's sound of the men, workin on the chain...gang.                                                      Hear em sayin, Ooh...Ah.  Ooh, I'm workin so hard.
Sang it to the guy sitting on his porch across the street. He got up and went inside. Filled up the gully, dumped some ashes from the furnace on top and stomped them in good. Ooh...Ah. Poured down rain later that afternoon. Ha HA it's still there, good stable fill. Nice to back out now too.  Hear the tires sayin'... Yeah that's right.

He came out when he saw me shoveling. I knew he was going to say something like, \"don\'t work too hard\" or \" workin hard enough?\" So I got ahead of him. Don\'t know if he was embarrassed or disappointed. Made me feel good either way.

Good for you! Guess if we want something done we have to do it ourselves. Can\'t stand the waiting game either! Hugs, Michele P.S. funny the neighbor went inside!!! Where is chivalry?
