25 Percent to 2015 weight goal

that's me with my tongue hanging out!
I have now lost 10 lbs. which is 25 percent of my 40 lb. goal for this year. And today someone actually NOTICED that I'm losing weight! A pleasant change from the usual catty comments.
I am back to the more drastic forms of dieting, since conventional & sensible diets just weren't doing it for me. I had hit a plateau and was way behind my timetable. Ever since the doctor reduced my thyroid meds, it's been like pulling teeth to lose a pound--and then the pound would come right back on, even if I hadn't cheated! Grrrrr.
I'm still behind with my timetable. First 10 lbs. was supposed to come off in 3 months, and it took 4-1/2 months--mainly because I was "stuck" for so long.  But now that I'm doing drastic, and really psyched up for it, I'm hoping to see more progress.
I am alternating day of 600 calories with day of 1600 calories. This is known as "extreme calorie cycling"--a starvation level alternating with a maintenance level. Over the course of a month, this will amount to 15 days on 600 calories. Those days I eat NO junk whatsoever, but every calorie must be nutritious as there are so few! And of course I take a multi vitamin/mineral every day, regardless.
I get through the starve days by thinking of Tomorrow (like Orphan Annie). She sang, "Tomorrow is always a day away." But I sing, "Tomorrow is ONLY a day away." So if I'm having a rough time on my 600 calorie days, I can remind myself, TOMORROW you can eat!"
This calorie cycling works well for a lot of people. If we eat 1,000 calories every day, the body thinks there is a famine and will conserve our fat! But changing up prevents this metabolic slowdown. Not to mention 1,000 or even 1,200 calories every day will drive us CRAZY because then we are hungry every day instead of every other day.
Make sense? YES.

Livingwater, congrats, you are really making progress. It is wonderful when we find what works for us and is doable. I find it hard to stick to a plan. Even when a lifestyle change, I go off track too often. Anyway, keep up the great work.

yes, I\'ve done best on similar diet. it was a 3 week cycle. of 600,600,600,900,900,900,900 or 1200, then 1200 for 7 days, then the 600,900 again. then maintenance was the 1200 and continued weight loss for a while but a slower healthy rate.
