Blah!! I had this long journal entry typed and when I went to post it my DSL connection had hiccuped and I lost everything :-(It just shows how my week has been. It hasn't been very good. I started back to work full time (6 days a week) and it is okay except I find myself very tired in the evenings. I had my 6 week post-op visit with my doctor on Tues. We talked alot about why I can't eat anything of substance and how I can only handle liquids and pureed foods. At 6 weeks I should be able to eat semi-solid foods like eggs, cottage cheese, tuna/chicken with mayo, but nothing will stay down unless it's pureed. He explained to me that sometimes the opening of the intestines that is attached to the pouch builds up scar tissue that causes it to be smaller than it should be. When this happens, solid food will not pass through causing you to get sick. He said it's actually quite common. He went on to explain that there is a simple procedure that does not involve surgery that is done by a Gastroneurologist as an out patient. They go in with a scope with a balloon attached to the end through your throat and stomach to the opening. They then inflate the balloon to stretch the opening as much as needed. My doc said most patients only need 1 procedure to correct it, but he has had patients that need 2 or 3 procedures. He sent me for an UGI procedure, and sure enough, the opening is so small that only a little liquid can pass through at a time. We also talked about the weight fluctuations I was having. One day I'd show a 2 lbs loss and the next I'd show a 2 lb gain. He said my body may be going into starvation mode because of the limited amount of food I can intake and is trying to store the fat now. He put me on 4 protein drinks a day (blah!) and increased my multi-vitamin from 2 to 3 until we get this fixed. He also told me not to weigh every day because I may get discouraged if I'm not seeing a continuous weight loss. So it's once a week for the scale for me. He then set me up an appointment with a Gastroneurologist for next Tues. It's just a consolutation and he wants to review the films from my UGI. They're hoping to have the procedure done sometime the end of this coming week. I'm kinda bummed because I was hoping to be able to give my daughter some time off work now. He's been working 6 days a week and running everything in our store since my surgery. She didn't even sign up for her college classes this semister because she didn't know how long my recovery would be and if she'd be needed in the store. I feel really bad about that and I know she's starting to get burned out and needs some time off.On a good note, according to my docs scale, I'm at a 53 lbs loss in 6 weeks.
