My first journal entry 8/22/07.

I think having Gastric Bypass surgery was the best decision I ever made.   When I first went to the doctor to discuss the surgery I weighted 380 lbs.  (I'm 5'4" tall) so I am an extremly large women.

This decision was life or death for me.  I looked at it two ways.   I could not have the surgery and in 5 years I would be like my mother and not be able to take a step without being out of breath or my feet and knees hurting under the pressure of my weight.. it was already starting to happen.  Or, I could have the surgery and "Expect the worst but hope for the best".   I felt things could not possibly be any worse then they already are.

It is now exactly 1 week after my surgery and I do feel great!  I have had zero nausea, little pain (I haven't taken any pain meds since I came home from the hospital), I'm up walking around and already feel the difference.  I think expecting the worst was the best attitude to have because I have yet to be disappointed.

After surgery when I weighed myself I was at 383 lbs.  The doc did say I would probably weigh a little more from the swelling.  I got on the scale again first thing this morning and 370 lbs!!  13 pounds in 7 days smiley-laughing.gif
