I didn't get to write an entry yesterday as I wasn't online so I thought I'd update now.
I decided to take the plunge and talk to my Mum about my concerns about MPD/DID. It went well but she said that she didn't know enough about it really to say yes it sounds like me or no it doesn't. We decided that I should talk to my therapist as I had an appointment the next day.
To cut a long story short I explained everything I was experiencing that I still didn't have answers to but I didn't mention MPD/DID. I didn't want to put ideas in his head. Basically he has explained that I have some form of a dissociative disorder with OCD and Borderline Personality traits PLUS Bipolar on top of that, which is where all the confusion has come from. The dissociation is explained by a dissociative disorder but not MPD/DID. The intrusive thoughts are caused by the OCD and the identity disturbance and surreal feelings are caused by the BPD traits as well as the dissociation. So with all of it acting up at the same time triggered by the high anxiety it's seemed similar to the MPD/DID disorder.
At least now I understand my own head a little better even if there's not much I can do about it at the moment. I don't feel so confused about it all and I'm glad I opened up and asked the questions I'd been wanting to ask for so long. I just want to thank everyone on here who helped me understand MPD/DID as this has helped me understand my dissociation, so thank you for all your support.
I've started my new medication Lamictal today and so far it hasn't given me any side effects *touch wood*. Fingers crossed that this is the one. My mood has actually been quite good again and I've done a bit of creative work today. I have one of those foil craft work things where you scrape away the paint to leave a foil picture. It's of a wolf and I'm hoping to get it done in time for christmas to give to a friend as she's mad about wolves. I'll try and update again tomorrow but I'm really going to try making the most of the good moods so I might not be online as much. Thanks again. Bye!
