i lost my husband to cancer 6 weeks ago he was only diagnosed in november but we were told it was terminal and that he probably only had a year or so . after having radiotherapy he seemed to be doing ok he then developed a frozen left shoulder so was not able to do much and then he broke his collarbone at that stage i gave up work and became his carer . because he was unable to do much he developed fluid in his legs then his lungs so the took him in to hospital to sort out the fluid problem . he went into hospital on the monday and on the tuesday afternoon when i visited i spoke to the doctor who told me he would be in hospital till the friday or possibly the monday i then went home and as i usually did i phoned the hospital at 11pm to ask how he was and was told he had been for an x ray and they were monitoring his saturation levels but they told me he had said to tell me he was fine. Just 45 minutes later i got a call from the hospital to tell me to make my way in to the hospital asap as his condition had got worse I arrived at the hospital at 12.30 to be told he had died 15 minutes before. my whole world turned upsidedown in the space of an hour we had been together for 38 years and also worked together for the last 7 years. In the space of a few short months i went from being a happily married woman with a good job and a very good life to being a widow with no husband no job and no income infact no life and i just feel like i dont know how to function alone after being half of a couple for all of my adult life . I miss him so much i never knew it was possible to cry so much, people tell me it will get better but right now i cant see it.
Sorry this is so long winded but i felt the need to get it of my chest Reading other posts on this site has made me realise that i am not the only person goinng through this awful grief

Not long winded in the least, Rohama - it\'s your life you\'re talking about. I\'m so sorry for the loss of your dear one. Hang in here with us - I read for months before joining. A friend said this to me when Joe was still sick - \"cancer\'s like a hurricane - it takes everything out in its path\". So true. So unbelievable. Gentle hugs - Marsha
Thanks Marsha I would love to be able to say i am coping but the truth is i feel i am getting worse Your comment about the hurricane is so accurate i do feel like my whole life has been wiped out and i dont know how i am going to start rebuilding it . I keeping doing things to keep busy so far i have stripped the spare bedroom ready for decorating ,taken the tiles off the kitchen and today i packed up his clothes and cried the whole day
I feel like i am still in a daze and dont know why i am doing any of these things Nothing I do matters when he is not here to share it I hate being me instead of us Thanks for the hugs
Rohama, at the beginning we are in such shock we operate on auto-mode or frantic-mode. It is such a long hard process of being in and trying to walk through grief---finding what works the best for our individual selves. I couldn\'t even read for nearly 3 months except short articles. I couldn\'t concentrate at all. I used to read for pleasure a lot before Stan died, then at around 3 months I started reading bereavement books and have learned a lot from some excellent books. Still a hard, deeply hurting process, but has helped me learn to start navigating through this life I find myself in after 38 years of marriage---now 20 months into this \"different\" normal.
Please know there isn\'t anything you can\'t express or take as much time as you need----no time line in this life now.
Hugs to you,
Sallie
So sorry for your loss and your subsequent pain and despair. All I can say is that all of us here have been there and many days and every day for some of us are still there. I hope you find comfort and support here, I know I have and I welcome you as a new friend.
Take it slow and do what you can. I lost my husband of 40 years to lung cancer. He died 10 weeks after being diagnoised. It is so sad to welcome you, because we know the loss. I do hope you find a sense of comfort in sharing and reading our posts. Sharon
This has got to have been the worst couple of days yet dont know how much more i can take as well as not being able to stop crying i have had
An adviser telling me that my heating is using 3 times as much gas as it should be as it is a old boiler (will need replacing no doubt)
My pension company telling me that although it should have started in may it is in fact only starting this week
My housing benefit is being changed yet again
My new bed delivered today has a hole in it and dirty marks on the edges and is going to take at least a week to sort out
My knee problem has flared up and I can barely walk at the moment
Had a row with the doctors receptionist while trying to get an appointment
I miss Bill so much the only thing that could make me feel any better at this moment is for him to take me in his arms and tell me that everything was going to be alright the way he always did when something was upsetting me
I know thats not going to happen but I wish with all my heart that it could
The pain I am feeling at this moment is so much worse than any physical I have ever felt I now know exactly what a broken heart feels like
