Everything in  my life seemed to be going relatively well.  However, in June 2011, it seems my life was turned upside down.  It started on a Saturday.  I was somewhere and all of a sudden my heart started to race, I felt like I was dying.  U asked my husband to take my to the ER and then I told him no call them because I'm not going to make it to the ER.  Well the paramedics came and checked me out.  The did the works and everything checked out fine.  I had some coffee on an empty stomach and that seemed to have started my panic attack.  I had never had one before and at the time I still did not know it was a panic attack.  Of course, from there things got worst.  I never had problems sleeping.  However for the next two weeks I could not sleep never day or night ( maybe 1 to 2 hours in a 24 hour period).  I felt on the inside like I was shaking or vibrating most of the time.  Then the crying started.  It didn't matter where I was I was crying and feeling depressed (that is not at all who I am).  I even became scared of driving and even looking at the clouds.  The sense of fear was not at all me.  I also started suffering from anxiety.  I still had not clue as to what was happening to me.  I just thought I was loosing my mind and drying on top of that.  My husband of almost 15 years tried to do all he could to help me however he did not know what was happening to me or how to help me.
I got some natural sleeping pills which helped a little at first with the sleep.  Then after two weeks I went to see my doctor.  My doctor is an excellent doctor but did not have a clue what was going on with me.  She wanted to put me on sleeping pills, anxiety meds, and anti-depress.  I told her thanks but no thanks.  I had not told my mom, who lives in another state so I would not worry her.  I finally told her and she said she thought it might be menopause.  That was a shock to me.  Like so many others I was expecting to eventually get the hot flashes/night sweat combo.  I HAD NO CLUE WHATSOEVER THAT PERIMENOPAUSE COULD COME WITH SO MANY SYMPTOMS.  If I did I would have saved money on doctors bills.
I do not like taking meds unless I really have to.  I remembered my friend that lives in the same state as me but in a different city.  She does Iriology (I think that is how it is spelled,  she checks you by the eye).  She came to see me and told me that my nerves were pretty much shot that is why I could not sleep at night.  I had hormone imbalance.  I was so defiecent in B-Complex and B-12.  She also recommened melatonin,  5HTP, and a multi-vitamin.  They have all helped greatly.  I know only have problem sleeping for a little around the time of my cycle.  Then I drink chamomile tea and that puts me to sleep.  Currently I started on Vitex (I hear it is good but takes about 2 to 3 months to feel it working).
Currently I am much better than when this started.  Don't get me wrong, I still deal with symptoms but not as bad.  I still get anxiety, brain fog, the vibrating feeling which to this day scares me although it shouldn't, and at times I get, especially during my cycle, a flu-like symptoms (muscle aches and a weak feeling).  I also have get the blues here and there.
I have also cut down tremendously on sugar, white flour (I eat more whole wheat products) and I also decided to cut out diary products and meat to see if it will also help me feel better.
This book helped me tremendously, THE PAUSE.
I hope my experience helps someone out there.
