And...they...are...gone!

Over the last few days my husband and I have been gradually cleaning up and taking over the house, now that most of their stuff is gone. There's still a room that's almost full, and stuff piled in the garage, plus a box or two in the living room, but otherwise, it's just our stuff.

And what a relief it is. I can actually breathe in this place now. It's clean. It's (mostly) organized. There aren't piles of junk in any of the places where I spend the most time. It's so wonderful. I can cook what I want when I want, I can put my stuff in cabinets instead of having it sit on the counter. Our food in the fridge doesn't have to be crammed all on one little shelf. We have our own washer and dryer, and I don't have to wait for my MIL to finish her laundry before I can use them.

It's great.

I made an interesting discovery the other day, though. The closet in what used to be my sister-in-law and mother-in-law's bedroom. Every time I'd been in that room before, I was certain the closet was the same size as the one we have in our bedroom. But I went in there and actually looked at it. It's enormous! It's so big that we're going to turn it into an office for me to work in. My whole desk will fit inside. It's three times bigger than the one we've got in our room. And it was crammed so full of stuff that we couldn't even walk into it before.

These people have just an insane amount of stuff. And most of it doesn't get touched, let alone used. They're welcome to their stuff, but I don't want to help move it again. Or deal with it in my own home. This house...it feels more like a home now. It doesn't feel like a dumping ground, or a junkyard. I like it here, now.
