I've had an interesting two weeks.
I got married on the eleventh, after planning my own wedding and having to answer what felt like a bazillion questions. But, finally, we escaped on our honeymoon, as short as it was. We went to a nearby small town with a great old-town section, and stayed in a wonderful, peaceful little honeymoon cottage for two nights.
It was so nice. I loved it there. There was a waterfall in the back yard, a huge comfortable bed, I quit my job for good, so there was no work stress, and I got to be with my new husband. We met online and had a long-distance relationship, so that was one of the best parts.
But now, I've finished moving across the country, and then we had another move that we're still working on.
But what's getting to me is the weirdness of what's going on with my body.
I've been on birth control for about three months now, so I could get used to it. I had no use for it until after the wedding, but figured my HSP-ness would require a long period of adjustment. Well, on March 25, I had what I thought at first was a period of breakthrough bleeding. It lasted ten days, give or take. But it was accompanied by cramps, so I then labeled it a period. But it was only two weeks after the last one, so I was confused.
If the thing, period or breakthrough bleeding or whatever, on the 25th was a period, then I would have been ovulating on the day of the wedding, or around that time. Which coincided with the night of my first placebo, or non-hormonal pill.
But get this - seven days after our wedding night, I experienced cramping. I thought it was ovulation, and everything was going to be fine. If it was, I'm due to start a period in five days. Which was what I assumed was going on.
But now...now I'm not so sure. You see, a few days ago, I had two bouts of unexplained nausea. The first was pretty bad. I had to put my head on the arm of my mother-in-law's chair, and almost fell asleep right there. Which is another thing. Usually once I get up, I don't get tired during the day. I've been tired almost every day. Right now, writing this, I'm fatigued. I'm running on five or six hours of sleep, which is usually plenty to keep me up and alert through the day. But I'm so tired. The second episode of nausea was when I was cooking eggs for husband. The smell turned my stomach. And I'd been eating eggs every day for weeks before that, and never had a problem. I love eggs. I was able to eat mine, but the smell got to me while I was cooking.
In addition, I've been popping tictacs multiple times daily, as well as waking up every morning feeling like I have dragon breath because my mouth tastes funny.
This morning, I woke up after dreaming I was pregnant, and looked up the symptoms of early pregnancy. While I was doing that, I was able to match up all of those symptoms, plus others I hadn't thought of. I had a sore throat for a few days, and have been dealing with sinus congestion and a runny nose for longer. Those are both symptoms (albeit lesser known ones) of early pregnancy.
I've also been slightly constipated, which, while gross to mention, is also a sign of early pregnancy, as is gas.
The cramps I mentioned were seven days after intercourse. Which would match the timing of fertilized egg implantation in a pregnancy, which can cause cramps as the egg burrows into the uterus wall.
As I type, there is a pack of pregnancy tests, a disposable cup, and a stopwatch hidden behind my makeup bag, waiting for tomorrow morning.
I don't know how I feel about it. Scared, of course. I was on birth control because my husband and I wanted to wait at least two years before starting a family, and now that a baby is a very real possibility, I'm terrified. But at the same time, I have the feeling I'll be crushed if the test comes out negative.
Almost every symptom can be explained away. Exhaustion from moving and the time change, as well as suddenly not having to adhere to a strict sleep schedule. Constipation from the junk food we've been eating, all the cheese. Cramps from ovulation. The bad taste in my mouth and the nausea from the food, too. The runny nose, stuffed nose, and sore throat a cold or allergies from being across the country.
It could all be just that. Explained away. Simple. Easy. I really don't know. But it's even easier to explain it the other way. It seems too much a coincidence to me. All of that stuff doesn't explain why, suddenly, one of my favorite foods made my stomach turn. It doesn't explain why I'm suddenly more prone to lose my balance, having to stop and regain it several times more often than normal. I also had a moment where I stood up and moved too quickly, and went rather faint and dizzy.
We'll see. I'll do the test tomorrow. Either I'm pregnant, or I'm super-hypochondriac-woman. Well...if hypochondriac is being used properly, anyway. That is what it means, yes?
