Day 10so i hadnt bought cereal since may because i had a habit of standing in my kitchen, in front of my cabinet and eating out of the box with my hand. there had been many binge situations that had started that way and also many times where i'd eat like 2-3 cups probably and tell myself i only had one....but how can you tell if you're not measuring or putting it into a bowl? sometimes, i'd even eat some and not put it in my food journal cuz i assumed it was not enough to make a difference. the problem is that i was probably taking in like 100-200, or maybe even more, calories than i thought i was cuz i really had no idea how much i had....and didnt want to know (and was wondering why i wasnt losing any weight....hmmm....). it got to the point where i just didnt buy it and changed to oatmeal. that was safe....no eating out of the box there. i actually wasnt buying anything that could be eaten out of a bag/box for that reason and because of the possibility of a resulting binge. and i hated it when my roommate would cuz then i'd just do it with her food! but not as much as i would with mine cuz then she'd notice and we'd have a bigger problem then my binge problem. anyway, i was grocery shopping not too long ago and i decided to go for it. i bought a box of kashi go lean which is one of my favorite cereals cuz its tastes really good (i dont care what my aunt says, it does!), its high in fiber and low in calories. and let me tell you, it had 8 servings in the box and it took me 8 days to finish it! seriously, any other time i'd buy a box of cereal it would probably take me like 4 days to finish it. this time, i only ate it at breakfast and measured out 1 cup each time. i was so proud of myself for having a box of something and not munching on it whenever i felt the least bit hungry or bored. part of it could be that my kitchen now isnt as fun to hang out in as my old one. its very small and not lit very well so there is less of a chance that i'm going to find myself hanging around in there. also, that particular cereal has like almost 1/2 the days worth of fiber so if i eat too much of it....well, we all know what happens when you eat too much fiber, and its not good. that was something i used to deal with which is not too different from some typical binge consequences. whatever the reason, i'm so glad. i'm really hoping this is something i can stick with so i can continue to buy foods that arent individually wrapped....i'm easing into this one though. the next step i took was buying two boxes of cereal; one was the kashi and the other was cheerios with oat clusters. the kashi is for breakfast and the cheerios (low fiber and cals) is for a snack during the day. i've been trying to find things to snack on that will actually fill me up a little cuz some things i'd tried (crackers, bars, pita chips, yogurt, etc) have been unsuccessful. so here is my go at step 2. i will not eat it out of the box, ever! no matter what. if i want some, i will measure it to 1 cup and eat it out of a bowl. there is really no reason not to. what i have to remind myself is that if i feel a little hungry, having a few bites of cereal is not going to make a difference but a bowl will. i also assume that eating a few bites will be less calories than the bowl but what really happens is that i end up eating more cuz, well, that's just what happens. so its time to smarten up and eat my cereal with a spoon like a human being! haha!
