Well, the appointment with the oral surgeon on Tuesday went well.  He explained the thing about Fosamax to us. The big problem comes into play with those who are taking the monthly dosage, or via shots (IM or IV).  We heard about this in the news several months ago, but not as completely as it has now been explained.  The media called it "dead jaw" when the dental community is calling it "dead bone syndrome."  There are only about 3% of the people who take the weekly dosage who will have this problem.  The problem is a slowing down of bone growth in the jaw bone.  With extractions this can become very complicated and age makes it more so.  The extraction site may not heal right away, it actually may take many months and several follow-up appointments.  The Dr. said that it is better to do as little as is necessary and approach other teeth as they loosen or break.  That was we lessen the risk factor of having this complication.  Sooooo, we will be having only the damaged tooth extracted on Dec. 11th.  That can easily be added to her partial plate. On Monday dh & I visited another Assisted Living facility.  We absolutely loved it.  It is run as a non-profit, which means they are more concerned with patient care & ratings than making a profit.  They took over an old hospital back in 1992 and totally remodeled it.  They have new wiring and sprinkler system, along with fantastic rooms.  All rooms are more like a small suite.  They contain a bedroom and combination room.  The combo room acts as a small kitchen (stove, microwave, under counter frig., and sink.  They have a large closets and extra dressers and other furniture.  The beautiful dining room is split so those who want more quiet can move away from the serving area which has a dietician making certain that the proper diets are being given out.  The Assisted Living has a resident laundry room, but staff will help if necessary or we can choose to have the facility do it for an extra fee.  All the old waiting rooms have been opened up to the hall (no petitions there) and have been beautifully set-up.  This place is a dream imho.  They take the residents shopping once a week, and (at facility expense) out to dinner at a local restaurant once a month.  I couldn't believe that they offer two activities each day and exercise classes 2-3 times/week.  The best part is that they have actual church services every Sunday and smaller services 1-2 times during the week.  (That will really please Mom - at least I hope)  The outside is like going into a park - a BIG wrap around porch with rockers, a gazebo, picnic tables, benches, porch swings in the yard, a small fountain with places to sit and I am beginning to ramble on.  But I have never seen anything like this.  They even have the skilled nursing on a different floor which makes the Assisted Living much more peaceful.  Sis will be coming for a short visit over Christmas and we will be going there together and then we will probably take Mom to visit.  We can almost be assured of a room by the 1st of February because someone is moving to another state. Can everyone tell we are excited?!  Please pray that this one works for Mom.Well, tomorrow is now reserved for dh & I to have our own creative day.  I will head to the college library for some research and he will be either working on a new composition or his new book.  We are hoping that this new schedule will accommodate us all and will be continued.
