This has been a fairly good day here. My niece, from the other end of the state, stopped by to visit with Mom today. They were on their way back from vacation and had to pass right by here. Overall it was a good visit. I'm sure Mom will have plenty of questions beginning tomorrow, after she "digests" the day. DH & I took her over one of her favorite Arby's Club Sandwiches & fav. milk shake. I knew she would be to tired to eat if we didn't do that. It made for a little fellowship time - off the clock, so to speak. DH has just left for one of his "little ride abouts" to unwind. He does this about once a month. I don't mind because it gives me time to catch up on reading or crafts or whatever. Tomorrow is another day. We have a new sitter starting. I hope to spend some extra "alone" time with her so she is certain what we are expecting. I so hate this "starting over" thing. But seems we have to do it about once each year. They tend to get to close and forget who is in charge. After several reminders, it is off to find a new one. I simply won't tolerate anyone messing with things pertaining to Mom. They are there to help, not 'take over' and seem to forget that. It makes things confusing for Mom. Today she asked me at least 3 times at different times through the day, "what day is it?" I know her memory is slowing down and failing her. But that is why schedules are so very important for her. Just kinda blowing off steam. Thanks for listening (reading) & caring.

I once had a pro caregiver who failed to watch out for my mother\'s safety in a startling way say to me, when I questioned her methods and corrected her, \"Don\'t think bad things and they won\'t happen.\" I know what you mean about the pros getting too close. It\'s hard to find just the right person. I haven\'t, yet, and I finally gave up. That doesn\'t mean you should. It was easy for me because I\'d already consented to be Mom\'s fulltime caregiver. I know, in situations such as yours, though, giving up can\'t be done. I wish you more than good luck...I wish you renewed determination and courage.
Very sweet of your neice to take time out to see your Mom. Hopefully this sitter will realize the family is supposed to be the ones that are really in charge. I wish you the best. Hope also that your daughter is doing well. Hugs, Ann
