please help me to understand....if your loved one had a stroke, would you just throw them in a care center for the rest of their life??? i just don't get it. my dad had a stroke and i flew out to see him and he thinks that he is in a hospital which they have lied to him about. he needs help to and from a wheelchair and he is slow eating due to hand movement but throw him in that place?? i want to spring him and bring him here to utah. it makes me really angry so see him there and not have the power to get him out.my half-sister ( i didn't grow up with) has already picked through his stuff and taken treasures home...she is just a vulture....she doesn't call him, not even on Christmas and yet she is taking his stuff..where is the respect in that one???i am the one that didn't grow up with him and i am the one that wants to take care of all of his needs. please help me make sense of this...my flight home was 2 hours late but i finally made it home safely and i am thankful for that. if anyone has suggestions of what i can or should do for my dad, just let me know...k......jaime

Sorry to hear about your dad. When my mom became incapacitated, I gave up my career to care for her in her house. Others wanted to put her in a nursing home, but I knew she didn\'t want that. She could still do little things around the house,,just not do everything she needed to do to take care of herself. I cooked for her. Took care of the house. Drove her places since she couldn\'t drive. And did the grocery shopping. Her last years in HER home were happier than they would have been in a nursing home. I kept my job, but because of the time I stayed at the house, I couldn\'t further my career. But, it was worth it to see her happy. If at all possible, bring him to your home,,,if just for the time he has left. It will be worth it to him and to you.

my dad was totally able bodied until this past July when a motorcycle accident left him with a traumatic brain injury. My older sister took him home with her, we really had no choice. The care facility where he was sent threw him out because he needed around the clock care and constant supervision. They more or less wanted to send him to a place that housed dementia patients and offered him no rehab......now he goes to rehab 3-5 times a week and is slowly improving. We owe his progress to my sister\'s dedication. I help her when and where I can which is more than I can say for other members of our family........ooooooohhh hitting a nerve here!!! HUGS HUNNY
