Now I don't know what to think. I saw the neurosurgeon today and he said that he would not advise surgery at this time. He said that due to my other health conditions (asthma, hypertension,sleep apnea,diabetes,and a mild kidney impairment) the increased risks of putting me under with a general anesthetic is not worth it at this time. He did say that I have enlarged ventricles but that my symptoms are mild. He also said that I had a large head. (Hmph!I'm a big guy...of course I have a large head). He said that this probably indicates that I have suffered from hydrocephalus since I was a baby because the head doesn't expand after that. He will discuss the situation with my neurologist (I have more doctors, don't I ? Maybe requiring soooo much attention makes me a bit of a male diva..If that's the case, I guess that I do have a big head...Oh, and paparazz?i..we male divas wear underwear so no use trying to catch us exiting our limos). So I guess that there's nothing exciting to report. I see my neurologist next week. If surgery is not performed at this time, then I will return to see the neurosurgeon in six months for a reevaluation. I don't have to see the pulmonologist until September...barring me doing something silly or being unlucky. Other than that, nothing going on. Be well,Tom

Big head....well we all knew that already....hahaha. Joking. Glad you don\'t need the surgery but what is next? You were needing that surgery for a reason...so now what?
How frustrating for you. It\'s like the meds we take. Take pill #1 for ailment #1. Take pill #2 to combat side effects of pill #1. Take pill #3 to combat side effects of pill #2 and take pill #4 for ailment #2. Take pill #5 to combat side effects of pill #3, which worsen ailment #1. Sheesh.
So can they give you anything to help with the mental impairments caused by the fluid pressure? I sure hope so. Keep us posted.

Docs sure can drive you crazy sometimes! They tell you all about this surgery they feel you \"need\" and then someone tells you it\'s not in your best interest to have the surgery. They wonder why we get so confused and then can\'t decide what to do!

I edited my entry above. The doctor I saw yesterday was a neurosurgeon. Originally I had put neurologist. Sorry if that caused any confusion.
MY neurologist I don\'t see until next Monday. Too many doctors. I confuse myself sometimes so I can only imagine how hard it is to keep up with for you all who have to work with what I have written. Hey, maybe it makes me a man of mystery.
Anyway, we shall see what happens. I do know that if I do wind up getting the shunt surgery, I\'ll want my surgeon more positive about the need. We shall see.
