Update
Today for Easter my wife and I went out for Sunday Brunch. The restaurant was very crowded but that was expected. We finally were seated after about 25 minutes which wasn't too bad. I immediately made a bee line for the omelet station. While in line, someone behind me said "Captain?...Captain(last name Omitted), it's me." Figuring that I was the only Captain (last name omitted) in that omelet line, I turned around and saw an officer from my shift with whom I had worked for many years. But for the life of me I couldn't remember his name. We spoke a bit about the job but his name still didn't come to me. He left and I could tell that he knew I didn't know his name. This bothered me... a lot. So I set out to find him and explain that my hydrocephalus is playing havoc with my memory. I found him and all at once it all came back to me...I knew his name, I knew he was one of my favorite officers because he would work a lot of overtime and was level headed, I also knew that he wouldn't work on his off days. That was family time.I was so relieved.I explained to him what was going on with me. He understood and was concerned. I told him that it's a correctable condition and I was seeing the neurosurgeon this week. I'm so glad that I was able to find him again. I didn't want him to think that I was so arrogant that I didn't value his contrbutions. He made my job as Watch Commander much easier. He deserved to know that he was appreciated. It seems the memories are still there but they come out in their own time. Most of the time it's not a problem. I don't know if this is related to my NPH, but earlier this week I had to retrieve a document from my locked file cabinet. When I got to the cabinet I took out my key ring. The key to the file cabinet is on the same one as my car keys. I have an electronic clicker for my car on that ring. When I sat in front of the cabinet, I pointed the clicker at it and hit the unlock key. I waited for a second and was annoyed when the cabinet didn't open. Then I realized that I was trying to open the cabinet with my car clicker. That was a little embarassing. My wife thinks that it is just muscle memory. Whenever I pull that key ring out, the first thing I do is unlock the car with clicker. She's probably right...but I'm glad that no one else saw me do it.Other than that, I'm doing OK. I hope everyone had a Happy Easter, or Passover, or whatever their spring celebration is.Be well,Tom

Captain Tom, that\'s what I\'ll call you, isn\'t it nice to see people we liked from our past? I know I did, this weekend, too. Of course your memories are there it is just accessing them is a problem. I predict things will get better and that will happen soon. You just hang in there. Too much fluid up there is all. Just the fact that you can type all of the above is a sign you don\'t have much impairment at all. Whatever is going on will be corrected very soon. You hang in there, okay? Hugs and Happy Easter to you and your family!
That was very good of you to go back to your former co-worker and explain things to him. He\'ll really now how much you respect him and enjoyed working with him, because men don\'t share those things with just anyone.
Try to look at the positive side of both incidents... that you have a repairable medical reason that they occurred, and that both times you realized what was wrong and were concerned about. That\'s a very good sign that you\'re not completely losing your wits. It\'s amazing how an increase in fluid pressure on our brain can so thoroughly mess with how it functions. I\'m glad you\'ll have it taken care of soon.
Take care,
Michelle
