8/9/2007It remains very hot. Living on a stovetop is not all it's cracked up to be.I think my area has reached a boiling point. It's time to reduce the heat to simmer. No such luck today though. It's supposed to hit triple digits again. I'll bet the crew at the jail have their hands full his week. tempers always flare when it's very hot and business is always good. Violent crime is on the upswing in summer. At least the new Justice Center is air conditioned. that should calm things down some.When I first started at the old jail we had no air conditioning. Inmates and officers alike baked. Everyone was miserable and patience wore thin. there was at least one fight a day until the temperature dropped. Not to be overlooked was the smell of several hundred overheated inmates with poor hygienic practices. It was a different world. Reflecting on the "good ol' days" has suddenly caused me to appreciate retirement. the only outlaw around here is the cat and she is definitely low energy. Some would say that she is an underachiever... but since her goal seems to be to take as many naps as possible ...I would have to say that she is highly successful. At any rate, she's old and doesn't get into much trouble. I remain confined to quarters... until Fall at this rate. A few years (decades) ago I would be bouncing off the walls. Now, ..not so much. I don't seem to get into much trouble either nowadays.Signing off from the stew pot,tom
