6/1/2007A little bittersweet today. I officially filed my retirement papers today and will become a man of leisure on July 1st. It's a little exciting starting a new chapter in my life so that's good. Only downside is it's a little sooner than I planned on. I feel I should still be working but I just can't work there anymore.(Damn asthma!)We'll be OK. Our home and cars are paid for and we have a nice nest egg. I'll be receiving a pension and I'll put in for disability with SSA. (It's a long shot I know but worth a try). Even without it, we're in good shape.I'll start looking around for something to occupy my time. Maybe I'll take up coaching baseball again. Whatever I do, it'll be healthier than my current job at the jail. Strange to say,I will miss my daily exposure to murderers, gang members, and thugs so something must be wrong with me. I remember that we had a serial killer in the old jail 12 years ago and he and I got along famously. (I worry a little about that) I still wouldn't turn my back on him so maybe I'm not totally nuts.I return to work on tuesday and begin the countdown. I wonder what it will be like without the stress?  It will be fun finding out.Be Well, tom

I think the stress exaserbates the asthma. The bad guys aren\'t going to miss you but your co-workers, that\'s another story. Don\'t know what you\'ve got til it\'s gone. I think you\'ll make a great baseball coach. You won\'t have to watch your back for serial killers. A free man at last.
