My meeting was about what I expected. It seems that they want me to be a real SOB with my staff. It was inferred that if I don't ...well ( hands spread).

I don't know if I have the stomach for continually threatening my staff. I'm no saint and I have my shortcomings but
making the work place hell is not my idea of a good solution. And they wonder why the morale is so bad. Maybe they are doing this to see if I'll retire. I hope so. At least the officers would catch a break with the new ,less expensive, Captain.

I'm going to present the new expectations to my crew and see if I can put a positive spin on it. I know how hard they work. It's a shame Admin seems to have their head up their a**.
I try to tell Admin how very hard the shift works but then I'm so angry I begin to cough. Once I start to cough I'm done for.

Maybe I should retire . I can't defend my guys adequately anymore. I don't think I could have changed their minds anyway but I could have put up a stronger fight if I were feeling better.

A major problem is that we have way too many administrators and not enough legitimate work for them. All of them are understandably worried about keeping
their jobs so they hold meeting after meeting and come up with one bad idea after another.

they're not the ones who have to stop what they're doing and break up a fight, deal with an inmate withdrawing from drugs, monitor suicidal inmates and accept all manner of abuse. No it's the officers. It's sad that they don't appreciate them more. No wonder we have such high turnover.

Ah hell. I'm still pissed. I think I'll have a beer.

Maybe I need to join the anger management forum.

Hope everyone has a better day than I have had. Be well,
tom

My husband works for Mine Safety and Health Admininistration. I can\'t remember how many times I\'ve heard him complain about bureaucrats (with their heads up their asses) making laws and policies that have never even been inside a coal mine. If you\'ve got an extra I\'ll have one too.
