2016-02-29: Day 4
This is a genuine "day 4": I can't do any of the "low-grade highs"--a phrase I created to describe the highs that are "allowed" in AA and NA without having to change one's sobriety date. These include: cigarettes; caffeinated coffee, tea or beverages; chocolate; there may be others.I have been addicted to dextromethorphan (dxm) since 2005. On some day in that year I did a classic cross-addiction from alcohol to dxm. I became addicted to dxm the day I took it with the intent and knowledge that I was taking it for it's effects. This sentence may sound odd, but I had been taking "Nyquil" for decades upon occasion to get high but prior to knowing that dxm was the ingredient in it that made me hallucinate. The low-grade high of coffee was used for all those years always while on dxm. For this reason, whenever I attempted to stop the dxm but did not stop the coffee, I would be back in the pharmacy in 3 or 4 days to buy dxm. I've decided that I must change my sobriety date if I do any of the low-grade highs.Today is a genuine day 4.
