2 years into shingles pain
Well, it's been 2 years since I had my severe outbreak of the shingles to my face and eye. I'm still on the medication, Prednisolone eye drops for my eye and my Doctor changed me from Gabapentin to Lyrica. The Lyrica works for pain, but again it puts 20 pounds of weight on you and makes me tired.
What I learned after two years of suffering from the ongoing pain is that I still have to watch being in the sunlight and no stress or upsetting lifestyle.
Lots of nights I am up until 3 or 4 in the morning as the pain stats and I just can't get back to sleep. I know when the pain returns to the inside of my nose and eyebrow area that the pain is going to last for several hours, so I try to calm things down until it slows down.
It's been very frustrating and discouraging. I'e it return am learning that I must except that I will have this pain for the rest of my life. I have good days and several days pass when I think I am winning and it has gone away, all to have it return as a constant reminder that is is here to stay.

Can you put an ice bag on your pain? That is how Mom does help the pain leave faster. After about 3 years and some months, that is how we still work with the pain. Mom takes no pain meds at all. She can\'t.
I am sorry this horrible condition exists! No one can understand but you who have dealt with it. I can only imagine.
I broke out in a bad batch of shingles at Christmas. We were up north and nowhere easy to get to a doctor. I simply could not take the itching burning pain. I had some Voltran gel with me for arthritis pain. Yes it is an off label use but I was desperate. It stopped all burning and itching immediately and no more blisters popped up! Within a few days of using the gel the blisters started drying up. Pure chance I had it and it worked so very well.
