2 wounded when argument escalates to shooting

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
An argument preceded a shooting that left two people injured in northwest Las Vegas on Thursday morning, according to police. The shooting happened just before 9 a.m. in the 5800 block of Westport Circle, near Gowan and Rancho roads.According to Las Vegas Metro police investigators at the scene, two men were arguing, and then each man pulled out his gun and shot the other person.Police said both of the men were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but one of the men was in extremely critical condition. The other man was expected to survive.According to neighbors and police, the men, both in their 50s, have had ongoing issues. Metro's Lt. Ray Steiber said Thursday was not the first time officers have been called due to the neighbors."Their disputes have [been over anything] from arguing over music to just living next to each other," Steiber said. "It's just sad that two neighbors have to fight like this, you know, and bring it to a point where you are actually shooting."Neighbor Theresa Lindsey was shocked by what happened."Everybody is worried about gangs and all this violence on the streets, and right in your own neighborhood they are going to shoot each other," she said.Steiber said that although this was a bad situation, it might have been worse had it happened earlier in the morning, when kids were headed to school."Thankfully, in this instance, there was no one else that was injured," he said. The identities of the men involved in the shooting were not immediately released.Copyright 2015 KVVU (KVVU Broadcasting Corporation).
