2 Weeks Post Surgery
Well, I'm just a weekend away from my 2 week post op date :) and I have to admit that I feel pretty darn good. I think the synthroid is making a difference already although I've heard it wouldn't kick in for about 3 weeks. I'm sure there are exceptions although they may be rare or few and far in between. The lump I felt in the back of my throat that first week is completely gone. However, my surgeon said it may return or come and go for about the first 6 months. I'll let you know if it returns. I have absolutely zero pain now and the fatigue I feel, I think is just normal day to day being tired... may be a tiny bit is due to being hypo now... maybe? I haven't received my labs yet from Tuesday on my thyroid levels.... I'll see those on the 1st at my next post op follow up. I am eating normal, solid foods- no blending in the food processor... I have had pizza this week, chicken alfredo, sloppy joes, and donuts this week (all of which I hadn't eaten in over a year). It's funny how much we can take for granted the littlest things. My constipation has let up and I think I can qualify as "regular" now. That may be due to my crazy diet this week that my body hasn't been able to consume the last year or that may be due to my levels coming up. Who knows? Either way, I'm not complaining. As for my wonderful cramps, they haven't returned. I've been keeping hydrated though and making sure I drink a minimum of 32 oz of water a day... as well as a glass or two of orange juice and a glass usually of apple juice. Best news! In the last year, my husband and I have only been out on a "date" ONCE..... last night, although I didn't want to do anything, I forced myself to get up, get dressed up, and we had "date" number TWO. We checked out a piano bar with dueling pianos, live music, singing, song requests, and raffles every hour.... it was great! I sipped my sprite for 2 hours while he devoured a couple drinks... this is an example of how good I feel :). For the last year, I've either been too tired, my throat bothered me, I've had aches and pains, or my heart was erratic and my anxiety and fear of the unknown wouldn't allow me to go out on any "dates" with my husband or friends for that matter.

That\'s great news! Glad to hear you\'re doing so well. I know exactly what you mean about the anxiety keeping you from doing the things you\'ve wanted to do. I also feel a huge relief from that.
I love that you\'re enjoying life now so fully and completely! You deserve all the happiness in the world. So proud of you for making the decision to go the surgical route. It\'s a lot tougher than the RAI but...... it\'s sooo worth it. No worries about being sick the rest of our lives, or eye disease going out of control.. or poisoning our loved ones. Anyhow, your date sounded wonderful! Loving your journal~
Aww... thank you! Surgery isn\'t for everyone and not a decision to be taken lightly. But with lots of thought and research, I knew it was right for me and am happy with the outcome. I know that it can be a long and treacherous journey finding the right place with synthroid but I think it\'s well worth it!
