2 Weeks Out

I'm 2 weeks out of transition.  2 weeks in the real world.  It's been an interesting 2 weeks.  I'm amazed at what I can do on my own now.  My trainers told me I would, but I didn't believe them.  I'm gaining confidence and my team leader says I'm doing a good.  Just a few things to work on.  The hours are good, 11:30AM-8:00PM Mon-Fri with every other Saturday off.  I'll be able to get some fishing in this spring, summer, and fall.  What do I do?  I work in a call center.  That doesn't tell you very much, so here goes.  I work for a company that subcontracts with a major communications company(THE BEST) to work with cellphone users.  I do many things.  I'm a problem solver.  If there is a problem with a phone, I solve it or find someone who can.  Whether it be a problem with making and receiving calls, voicemail, data, the internet, or "The phone just won't work".  But, I do more.  If a caller wants to change their plan, I do it.  It could be getting another plan with more or less minutes or adding a feature, such as more time for text messaging, or data, to stopping data use, or adding t.v.(Yes, you, now, can watch t.v. on your phone.), or adding roadside service, or adding a line to the plan.  But, there's more.  I explain bills.  A caller may think their bill is too high(Who doesn't.), or their rollover minutes are too low.(Oops! That tells you the name of the big company!), or find unkown download charges.  I change billing addresses and names. I take payments and, on occasion, sell phones.  I arrange the returning of phones  Oh, I'm so smart!  A genius!  Have to be to know all this, right?  Not really.  I have access to pages and pages and pages, and pages of information.  Need to know how much it's gonna cost to make a call from Germany back to the U.S.?  I can find it for you.  Need to know if your phone will work in a certain area?  I can find that, too.  Want to report a lost or stolen phone?  I can report that and arrange to have the line suspended.  Oh, I'm so smart!  Let the computer crash and I'm really, really dumb.  And, I have lots of help.  It takes a bunch of people behind me to solve the problems.  But our goal is to solve the problem on the first call and we usually do one way or another.  It's very rewarding.  But the biggest thing about this job, the part I love best, is that I get to talk to a bunch of nice people all day long.  And this is coming from a guy who almost quite just 3 weeks ago!
