2 more weeks
I have 2 more weeks left of teaching. I set this as my goal b/c I was diagnosed the week before college started. I teach 2 subjects/ 4 classes in the Human Service Major. My classes are Monday night and all day T/Th. So I have my rest days in between.
The surgeon wanted to rush me into surgery and I wouldn't have had an opportunity to meet my students and pass out the syllabus. So, I said no he'd have to wait a week. Then I was lucky enough the college found 3 teachers to cover for me for 2 weeks. My surgeon said it would be a 6 week recovery. I said no, it would be a 2 week recovery and I borrowed a wheel chair and arranged for friends and family to drive me to school and push me the distances. But I didn't need it and was able to get back to class within 2 weeks with surgeon's ok.
I wasn't sure how I was going to react to chemo and work. I only had to arrange a speaker for my Monday night class to take my place after I had a bought with diahrrea and dehydration and cancelled my Tues classes the next day so I could regain my strength.
My students were great. I shared my experiences with them, after all they are training to be human service workers. They were very supportive. And some were even able to share their experiences with me to help me out.
Now I have 2 more weeks left. And I'm ready to be done. And will be ever so happy to have accomplished my first short term goal of recovery and living with cancer.
