2 Good Things My Son Did

I'm always complaining about him, aren't I? Well, there have been a couple of good things which happened Sunday.One is: since he plays on the praise band at church, the church elders decided to pay a small amount of money to the band members (I guess to offset any expenses?). But my son refused that offer. His reasoning is 1- that his playing is his act of worship & he doesn't feel he should be paid for it; and 2- if he needs a job, he'll get one on his own! (Now that was really encouraging--I hope that means he will look for one!) So I'm really proud of him to make this decision on his own. His reasons are sound and right.The other thing is: he's decided to go back to youth group (he stopped going since he graduated, since he felt that he shouldn't be going anymore; but some of his pals are going, so he is now too), and they usually have a "cafe" time where the kids pay for some snacks to eat while they're socializing. In the past, I've given him & my daughter money for this. But he told me that I don't have to pay for him, he'll pay for himself. Now: this isn't anything earth-shattering, but just the fact that he is taking this responsibility for himself is a big step!Another ray of hope is that he really seemed to be listening to the sermon on Sunday, which was based on 2 Thessalonians. The 2 points were prayer & keeping busy doing what we should be doing (specifically, to not be idle). And although the pastor spent most of the time talking about prayer, my son really honed in on the idleness part. (I'm hoping especially the part where, if a man does not work, he should not eat!) Perhaps it struck a chord? I'll let God knead that one into his little heart!
