My sister and I are sharing more. It's good that we don't keep our fears and anxieties to ourselves anymore. It's easier to fight a battle with a knowledgeable army. Sandy sent a thank you letter to me with another $200 gas credit card. She's the most generous, thoughtful person I know. This is a tough battle, but I have faith that we will get through this.
I'm still waking up around 4:00 a.m. with the thought "My sister has esophageal cancer." It's still a shock. It will probably always be a shock. I relish each day, as I don't know when the cancer gene will show symptoms in me. Mom and Dad both had cancer by their early 60's, and both my mother and grandmother died of cancer in their early 70's. So it's not the question "Will I get cancer?" but rather, "When and what kind of cancer will I get?"
My husband and I are taking a trip to Tybee Island, GA. Nature always gives the gift of peacefulness to me, and I look forward to spending time next to the Atlantic Ocean again.
