Mother's Day

Another Mother's Day and I know that I will be doing good to get a phone call.  What am I going to say when our ES calls?  Do I try and start a conversation about our relationship or just continue to "play the game" of everything is just fine.
My counselor has helped me get to the place I am today.  I have pretty much given up on ever having a normal relationship with our son and his family.  I have tried to communicate with our ES.  But he will not tell us what the problem is between us.  We know that our DIL does not like us.  Ever since they were married she has tried to keep our son away from us.  Every holiday is spent with her parents not us.  We know that a big part of the situation is tht she is jealous of our previous relationship with our son.  Dr. Joshua Coleman says that when a parent, especially a mother, is close to her son the new wife feels threaten.  Why, do we do that to our husbands?  If you want a good husband you should marry someone who loves his mother.
Our DIL we feel has turned our son against us.  Our DIL is a control freak in every sence of the word.  I think she doesn't like us because we refuse to be controlled.  Our son told me once that we needed to learn to play the game.  Well, the game rules keep changing and I can't keep up.
Our DIL and ES are not allowing us access to our grandkids.  Everytime we ask for them to come over we are told no.  Now that school is almost out I begin to wonder....do I try again.  I must be prepared for either no response or a stupid reason why they cannot come.  Then the hurt and sleepless nights start all over again.  If I don't reach out then I am not setting myself up for another disappointment.
I so wish that I lived far, far, away from our ES but he actually only lives 15 miles from us. I try to pretend that it's 1500.....I know that I won't see my son tomorrow.  That would be the first Mother's Day visit I had had since he married eleven years ago.  But, they haven't missed one with her mother.
Okay, I am having a pity party....guess I will stop the fun now.  Thanks for letting me vent.
