Why?- Nicole NordemanWe rode into town the other day, just me and myDaddy. He said I’d finally reached that age, and Icould ride next to him on a horse that of coursewas not quite as wild We heard a crowd of peopleshouting and so we stopped to find out why Therewas that man that my dad said he loved, but todaythere was fear in his eyesSo I said Daddy why are they screaming? Why arethe faces of some of them beaming? Why is hedressed in that bright purple robe? I bet thatcrown hurts him more than he shows Daddy pleasecan’t you do something? He looks as though he’sgoing to cry You said he is stronger than all ofthose guys-Daddy please tell me why, why doeseveryone want him to die?Later that day the sky grew cloudy and daddy saidI should go inside Some how he knew things wouldget stormy, boy was he right But I could not keepfrom wondering if there was something that he hadto hide So after he left I had to find out, I wasnot afraid of getting lost So I followed thecrowds to a hill where I knew men had been killedAnd I heard a voice come from a cross:And it said : Father why are they screaming. Whyare the faces of some of them beaming? Why arethey casting their lots for my robes?? This crownof thorn hurts me more than it shows. Fatherplease can’t you do something? I know that youmust hear my cry. I thought I could handle a crossof this size, Father remind me why, why doeseveryone want me to die. When will I understandwhy? My precious Son, I hear them screaming. I’mwatching the face of the enemy beaming but soon Iwill clothe you in robes of my own. Jesus thishurts me much more than you know, but this darkhour I must do nothing. I’ve heard your unbearablecry — the power in your blood destroys all thelies, soon you’ll see past their unmerciful eyes.Look there below see the child trembling by herfather’s side. Now I can tell you why, she is whyyou must die.
