I started harming when i was 15 and then stopped for 7yrs without any problems. Then i started again and amanged to quit for 4 weeks which was hard but i did it. Then i started again and it got to a point where i couldnt even sleep i had to harm even if it was just a scratch! now i have just gone 11days and it has been the worst most painful 11days ever! i caved in this evening and feel normal now, it hurts but it feels good. My first question is this...Why does it get harder everytime i try and quit?Secondly.... what do people to to get over the urges when you have done everything else to distract? What do you do when you have written ur journal, gone for a walk, screamed at the radio, drawn every picture under the sun etc and you still wanna harm? Thirdly why is it that when you accidently hurt yourself like catch your hand on a hot pan or under the tap it hurts like crazy but when you do it on purpose it doesnt really hurt at all? Why is it that smoking, and drug taking are as addictive as self harm and just as unhealthy but far more acceptable and not shameful?why is talking a trigger?!How do you slove a problem other than harming if you dont no how to?

1. Your body has learned that you use it to cope. When you think about how you felt during, before preparing, or afterwards you feel relieved and feel that feeling of happiness/calm.
2.For me it depends on the person. Personally, I come on this website or I go somewhere with people. If I\'ve tried thoughs I pray to God and think of the progress that I\'ve made.
3. That one also depends on the person. Some may be caught off gard and which it will cause pain.
4. I believe that we have seen these soooo many times in movies, tv, ect. Plus many feel that a person is hurting themselves on purpose and many may feel that it is a sin. We\'ve grown up with knowing these are all around, so we find it more acceptable.
5. This depends on the person. Sometime what a person is feeling, the details, ect. may trigger because we can relate or are wanting the feelings of pain when explained.
6. I find someone who knows about the problem and it\'s solving ways.

Hope this helps hun. I\'m sorry about what happened. I\'m here if you need to talk.
