again

Last night I got a call from my Mom.  She told me that Jim, my youngest sister's husband, had just called her to tell her that his son had been in a canoeing accident and they were still searching for him.  Ethan is my nephew's name and he is 25 (26 in March) years old.  He has been to several survivor type schools and is quite an outdoors person.  He and a friend went canoeing yesterday.  They put in at 106th street and had come as far as about 48th street where they were going to get out.  There was a tree hanging over the canal they were on and as they went under it, the front of the canoe got caught on a limb and flipped them over.  They hung onto the canoe for awhile and decided that they were going to have to swim for it.  The girl let go and began to swim and I don't know if Ethan became entangled in the rope or what , but she said he yelled for help, went under and she didn't see him again.  The rescue workers worked until 9:30p last night and again from 9:00a to about noon today.  They are bringing in some different underwater detection equipment tomorrow and are going to continue to search.  I was so praying that maybe he was carried downstream and was able to get onto land and would be found, but it isn't looking very hopeful.  It was in the 20's last night and they said the water temperature was just under 40.  I feel so sorry for my sister and her husband.  How awful it must be to not know where he is, for the hope to just slip away and the horror of not knowing where he is.  Please say an extra prayer for them all.  I just absolutely hate this!!!!!!
