Tragedy has infiltrated my life, and has pushed me into a place that i loathe so deeply. Former two time prime minister and soon to be pres. of Pakistan as of the pending jan. 8th elections Benazir Bhutto was assassinated this morning. She was killed shortly after leaving a campaign rally, after giving a speech that was amazingly positive, given the political crisis. She was shot in the neck and in the chest, and then a suicide bomber detonated a bomb blasting her motorcade. I cannot wrap my brain around it at all. I know it seems stupid that i would be so overcome with grief over a woman i admire from afar, but she was on my list of people who i dream of meeting, and now that goal will never materialize. She was the beacon of hope for pakistan as well as for United States foreign policy. With her willingness to work with the west on the issue of nuclear weapons ( which pakistan has) and her fervent belief that pakistan could emerge from being a thugacracy into a full fledged democratically run member state, shall be steadfastly labored after by the individual who inherits the political party and most likely the prime ministership. I have been wearing a scarf ( hijab) on my head all day, as well as a bindi on my forehead in respect and as a symbol of mourning for her. I have been glued to the requisite outlets..cnn, msnbc, fox, bbc, for coverage, i have officially spent my day in reverence to her memory. I took a minor coffee break hoping that it would aide in me feeling better, but to no avail, i sit here heavy hearted, and planning my assent into international politics.I hope to one day be a top level diplomat, and work towards making a change in the world through innovative ideas and eschewing paradigmatic thinking. I am trying to see her death as something that could cause a positive change in the country. The citizens may be so outraged, that they revolt and musharaff ( the president) has no choice but to step aside.I am deeply sorry for boring you with my enytry on international politics, but it is something that i am passionate about, and hope to devote my life's work to. Benazir bhutto is one of many inspirational women i am blessed to know of. Her legacy shall live on, and i truly hope that she not perished in vain.with what is left of my heart,Kay

i am sorry for ur/the world\'s loss
thats tragic! I\'m sorry its horrible if sum1 you look up to dies! hugs!
This is not boring at all. It\'s refreshing to hear an intelligent blog from a woman on politics at all--particularly international. I think Bhutto was (and still is) amazing. It\'s tough enough to present any sort of contrary political view in Pakistan at all, even tougher as a woman to present any sort of VIEW, PERIOD; and toughest to be a woman presenting (and succeeding!) a contrary political view. Her legacy will certainly live on. She\'s forced our ridiculous president to open his eyes a little, hopefully, if that\'s possible.
Hang in there.
