7/6/07 I'm up tonight and really shouldn't be. I have a few doctor's appointments in the morning but I had a really hard time sleeping. Sometimes when I get uptight, I think, I'll lay in bed and it feels like my toes spread apart and bend back. I don't think it's phantom pain because it's been 10 years since I lost my leg. I don't like nights like this but they happen. I have a cardiology appointment tomorrow. I hope to quit smoking. My doctor is sending me to a different cardiologist than I usually go to for quitting smoking. All my doctors have told me that if I quit smoking I'll keep my other leg longer and stay here longer, I don't have much choice. I know that diabetes and smoking don't mix but I've done it for 33 years of the 40 I've been diabetic. It will be hard but I have to quit. Maybe the being up tight tonight is just the worry about quitting, whether I can do it or not. Maybe it's just me not wanting to go to sleep and say good bye to those ciggarettes. I have to try to sleep, it's 11:00 and I have to leave here by 7:00 AM tomorrow. I'll put an entry in tomorrow about my appointment.

I went to the Smoking Clinic last week. I was impressed with the doctors I saw from the clinic but was more impressed with my internal med doctor. He spent all day there with me. I wrote a letter to him thanking him for his kindness and care. I thanked him in the clinic for his caring about me as a person, not just a patient. I think he almost cried, he leaned over and gave me a hug and said I was an easy man to care about.
I think a good doctor needs to be thanked to let them know we know they are doing a good job. All my doctors are at a major city hospital and I think they don\'t get thanked enough.
I told him that if I knew he was going to be there, I would have taken him the letter personaly. He said I\'ll se him Tuesday. I have an appointment with my cardiologist.
