Sooo...

It turns out my protein intake has been unbelievably low for more than the last 3 decades. I thought I was getting plenty of protein through cheese, yogurt, milk, beans, and nuts. As it turns out, I'm supposed to be getting 70 grams of protein per day and, as a vegetarian, I had only been getting less than 20.
I read an article that said effects of vegetarians not getting enough protein are: being tired when you shouldn't be, weight gain (due to muscle turning to fat instead of being rebuilt stronger with protein), and having injuries that won't go away. Check, check, and check! I fit all the criteria.
So I bought a Nutri Ninja, bananas and some protein powder. I'm going to have hubby pick up some frozen fruit on his way home, and then it'll be smoothie time! Here's hoping this will work because I'm about to throw my hands up to the lord and let Jesus take the wheel because I clearly not knowing what I'm doing.

Smoothies rock! Especially in the warmer summer months.

I totally get what you\'re saying about protein. During a bout of dental surgery I found that I wasn\'t getting enough and was fuzzy brained a lot of the time. Upping the protein really helps.

Another food you might want to consider adding is edamame. Lots of protein AND fiber. Makes a nice little afternoon snack. If you have access to a Trader Joes, they have bags of shelled edamame in the freezer. I just defrost a serving in the morning and it\'s ready to go for afternoon snack. Fresh can go bad faster than some veggies so having it frozen and being able to dish it out when I want helps a lot.
