Just joined the GERD - Heartburn group.  I have tried Axid, Pepcid, Tagament, etc.  My care provider put me on Omeprazole (generic Prilosec) and it really works.  The only problem is that I understand that medications like this can inhibit your ability to absorb calcium.  Would like to know if anyone else knows about that.

yes these meds are not good for long term use. and gerd is long term, & can cause serious problems if left untreated. so what can u do? every so often i stop taking mine for a few days just to give myself break. plus i\'m doing some health things that may be helping a little bit too. sometimes i take aloe vera (tastes yuky)& am taking a calcium magnesium powder in water at night. i do this especially when i\'m giving myself a break from the gerd rx medications. we have to look out for ourselves as sometimes the cure can kill us - hee hee!
