better

The memorial service last Saturday went well. It made me really sad again for several days but it was good to hear other talk about my husband and what he meant to them. I had friends cater and play music afterward so it was lovely in all. The DJ played "In my life" at the end and also "Imagine" and those really got to me.  I am glad we did it but I am also glad it is over.
I am trying to make an effort to find things I like to do on my own. One is biking, but it is very rainy here. Yesterday it was nice for the first time in a long time and I about wore myself out biking to the next town and back and then catching up on the mowing. The yard looked like a hay field.
I am in the process of converting the shed to a play house and I did get the garage sorted out. (Funny story: I found two five gallon crocks of three year old sauerkraut that my husband had never got around to canning. I told him to be glad he was dead because I'd kill him all over for leaving such a stinky mess!) I didn't want to work this weekend so I went to a couple meetings this morning and then I went over west to another city and saw a fiber festival; lots of beautiful wools and silks and spinning and weaving. It was well worth seeing. I think tomorrow, after peanut butter pancakes with the dogs I will go to a wood carving exhibition. I am lucky that there are a lot of free and cheap activities in this area. I am trying hard to rekindle my interests in things I can do for fun without my husband. Well, not exactly without him, I feel he is always around somewhere. Our song was "Always." He picked it to be sung at out wedding.
Today I am grateful for:
dogs and cats
choice to try to enjoy life
no rain for 36 hours
got the lawn mowed
fiber fest
got groceries
meetings
friends
truck
flowers
library books
memorial went well and is done

The memorial service sounds lovely. I know you are relieved that it\'s over - and pleased that it was well done. I\'m glad you are finding activities you enjoy and keeping that gratitude list at the end of your journal. That is SO important as you travel the \"grief road\" -- realizing that in spite of everything, you have blessings.

Sounds like the service turned out to be just as you hoped it would be. It is hard finding things to be thankful for but you always summarize your journals this way, I love it! Hugs Lu Ann
