So my partner is really struggling with my moods it feels like it is taking over my whole life, I don't want to lose him but I cant help my moods! has anyone else had this problem?? any advice?? x
Hey, sorry you\'re going through this. Anxiety took over my life last year and it was miserable. I totally sympathize because I can\'t imagine how much worse bipolar is. My ex had an issue with my anxiety and eventually left me because it caused him so much stress. We\'re working things out now but I thought I\'d share in the case that it might help you.
We were together for a few years, but last year things got rough. I developed really bad anxiety from my old job. I was always worrying about anything/everything and was not myself at all. Then I\'d worry about what my stress was doing to our relationship, which caused even more stress. I kept trying to explain it to him, but he didn\'t know how to help me. My mind was too distorted for me to properly explain how he could help. I just kept asking him to not hold it against me and to be nicer. But he no longer saw me as ME. Anxiety took over and defined me.
After we broke up I was severely depressed. However, things turned around for both of us and I\'ve defeated my anxiety. I thought I was stuck with it but all it really took was a life revamp. I didn\'t want to keep describing myself as an anxious person. I wanted to experience life the way I used to before I had anxiety. Proper exercise, getting an enjoyable job, getting enough sleep, and talking things through with close family members went a long way. I know bipolar is more difficult than general anxiety so on top of those things, I\'d recommend counseling. Specifically couples counseling, as I wish I had done.
Most of all, try to keep your true personality visible to him. Remind him of the person he fell in love with. Remind him that you are not defined by bipolar. It\'s a part of you, but it doesn\'t have to BE you. My ex thought he lost me to anxiety, but now that I\'ve overcome it, he\'s falling for me all over again. Hope this helps and good luck!
